Healthy Child Care Colorado

Healthy Child Care Colorado is part of a nationwide initiative coordinated by the American Academy of Pediatrics to ensure that early childhood programs and health professionals adhere to the highest health, safety, and wellness standards. As an initiative of Qualistar, we partner to improve the everyday practice of professionals and build safe, supportive environments.
We are supported through local, state, and national partnerships to promote and support health, safety, and wellness best practices for early childhood settings in four priority areas:

We promote health, safety, and wellness in early childhood settings in three ways:

1

Serve as a statewide hub for Child Care Health Consultants by offering on-going support, training, and resources

2

Develop and deliver professional development experiences for early childhood professionals

3

Advocate for high quality health, safety, and wellness policies and practices in Colorado

Advocacy, Training, & Engagement:

Our impact on policy and practice

The Healthy Child Care Colorado Partnership is a coalition of stakeholders who come together as a learning community and collective voice for the health, safety, and wellness of children in early childhood settings in Colorado.

We are cross-sector collaborative of government agencies, nonprofit organizations, institutes of high education, businesses, clinical representatives and child care health consultants who work together to promote best practices and policies. We identify policy priorities, offer expert opinions to regulators, and advocate to ensure effective, research-based policies are created and implemented. The Partnership has played a leading role in updating the child care licensing and sanitation regulations, creating medication administration training specific to early childhood environments, offering input for infant safe sleep policies, and supporting the implementation of new policies.

About Healthy Child Care Colorado

History

Healthy Child Care Colorado arose out of the Healthy Child Care America initiative that began in the 1990s with support from the US Department of Health and Human Services, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration; the Child Care Bureau, Administration for Children and Families; the American Academy of Pediatrics; and the American Public Health Association. These partners recognized the potential to positively impact the health and safety of children in early childhood settings throughout the country.

Colorado stakeholders recognized the importance of collaboration, so the Colorado Children’s Hospital, the Colorado Department of Human Services, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and Qualistar worked together to build Healthy Child Care Colorado. The founding organizations serve on the Healthy Child Care Colorado Steering Committee along with new partners.
