We offer the following innovative and hands-on ECE trainings that improve everyday practice by providing ideas and skills that can be implemented in the classroom immediately. Many of our trainings can be offered upon request, which means we can bring early childhood education training directly to you at a time and location that is convenient. Health, Safety, & Nutrition

Optimal child development is enhanced if young children are safe from physical and emotional harm. In designing learning environments and experiences for young children, meeting the health, safety, and nutritional needs are critical to child growth, development, and learning.

Cavity Free Kids

ORAL HEALTH—This 2-hour training includes activities, circle time experiences, stories, songs, art, dramatic play, discovery and science, sand and water, literacy and library, toys and games, and other resources to actively engage children in play-based learning. It will help make oral health part of your daily routines with children and families, as well as support teaching the 5 Basics of Oral Health:

  1. Baby Teeth are Important
  2. Water for Thirst
  3. Tooth Healthy Foods
  4. Brush, Floss, Swish
  5. Going to the Dentist

Healthy Smiles Champion

ORAL HEALTH—Building upon the Cavity Free Kids training, this training offers participants the support and materials needed to implement tooth brushing and create a policy that supports limiting sugary drinks.

I am Moving, I am Learning

OBESITY PREVENTION—I am Moving, I am Learning is nationally recognized and improves the quantity and quality of physical activity in early childhood settings. In this 3 hour training, participants learn and practice strategies to enhance structured physical activity through music and movement for young children. Using a team approach, participants develop program-specific action plans to successfully implement I am Moving, I am Learning in daily routines.

I am Moving, I am Learning for Infants and Toddlers

OBESITY PREVENTION—Enriching early childhood experiences support brain development and form bonds between children and adults that are essential for healthy physical, cognitive, and social development. We will explore how relationships between adults and children, and between brain and body, are enhanced by music and sensory, control and exploratory experiences. This free 1-hour training will provide strategies and resources that support learning through music and movement for three different ages and stages including: infants (pre-crawlers), babies (crawlers) and toddlers (walkers).

Wellness Champion

OBESITY PREVENTION—Building upon the I am Moving, I am Learning training, this program offers the support and materials needed to implement I am Moving, I am Learning and to create workplace wellness programs that support physical activity and nutrition. This training is for directors, teachers, health consultants, public health staff, coaches, and anyone else interested in learning from this nationally recognized training.

Moving Into Wellness

OBESITY PREVENTION—We are excited to provide a full day of Moving into Wellness! Participants can attend any or all three of the trainings provided; lunch will be provided for those who attend all day. Each participant will receive an activity booklet and materials to begin implementing content right away! This day of training will include:

Wellness Champion Webinar

OBESITY PREVENTION—The 2-hour Wellness Champion webinar training will provide strategies to become an effective “champion” for implementing physical activity and workplace wellness activities in your program. We will review best practices, brainstorm ideas, develop an action plan for promoting teacher-led structured physical activities and guide you through the creation of workplace wellness. This training is provided at no cost to the participants.

Cooking Matters for Child Care Professionals

OBESITY PREVENTION—This training teaches early childhood education professionals about healthy meal preparation and how to create a positive food environment. Participants will practice skills to promote positive mealtime attitudes and behaviors, organize cooking activities, and how to efficiently prepare healthy food options. Participants will receive new, essential kitchen tools, 34 recipes, and an activity bank.

Nutrition in the Preschool Classroom

OBESITY PREVENTION—This 2-hour training is led by a nutritionist and registered dietitian, and focuses on healthy eating habits and practices that support a child’s lifelong health. This training helps teachers and families work together to support children’s successful dietary changes through education, stories and participation in food buying and food preparation. Participants will learn about structured eating principles and maintaining a balance of appropriate proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.

Teaching Practices

Early childhood educators are responsible for planning, implementing, and supporting intentional experiences that promote children’s growth, development, and learning in all developmental domains.

Infant/Toddler Science and Math

Enhance your science and math practice and engage your youngest learners. Join us for either or both of these 1.5 hour training sessions.

MATH SESSION: Moving Beyond Big and Little: Math Language for Toddlers
“I’m not good at math,” is a phrase we often hear from colleagues and friends. Embrace math language in the toddler classroom and explore ways to incorporate math throughout your program. Learn how books and literacy are essential tools for encouraging math language in the classroom. It’s never too early to encourage the next generation of mathematicians and to learn how to be mathematicians ourselves.

SCIENCE SESSION: The Language of Science for Infants and Toddlers
You don’t need to wear a white lab coat to be a scientist. For infants and toddlers, science is a part of their natural curiosity and exploration. Training materials promote natural exploration and scientific discovery. You will learn strategic ways to engage infants and toddlers in science and key methods for incorporating scientific language in your program or classroom. Come prepared to push your current understandings of science and learn ways to encourage the next generation of scientists.

We will be hosting two 1.5 hour trainings, and you may choose to attend only one or both sessions. Snacks provided.

Math IS for Toddlers

This 3.25 hour training supports teachers in understanding the research on toddlers’ development of math concepts. Participants will learn how to nurture math in the classroom through books and literacy. Participants will have opportunities to practice and develop activities and strategies to immediately take back to the classroom.

Science IS for Babies and Toddlers

This training supports teachers of infants and toddlers in the design of an environment which supports curiosity and exploration, drawing from what research and current thinking say about child brain development,and how they understand, explore, and construct their world. Teachers will practice and develop exploration strategies which nurture early science experiences for infants and toddlers.

Quality Outdoor Learning Environments Webinar

This 2.5 hour training is a live webinar. The Quality Outdoor Learning Environment training is designed to educate participants about the benefits of high quality outdoor spaces and the correlation they have to physical activity, mental and physical health and safety.

The Caring Classroom: Responsive Caregiving in Infant and Toddler Classrooms

This training explores the critical elements of responsive caregiving in the infant and toddler classrooms. Participants will work in small groups to determine strategies that can be implemented to improve the quality of teacher-child relationships in the classroom, and each participant will leave the training with identified strategies to improve the responsiveness of the classroom.

Musical Me: Incorporating Music into the ECE Classroom

You don’t have to have a musical background to benefit from using music in your early childhood classroom; that’s why we partnered with Swallow Hill Music for a day of ECE training at their location. Swallow Hill Music Instructors will present strategies and activities for you to use in Creative Composition, Movement and Music, and Music and Literacy. A child’s inherent musical curiosity can be a powerful learning tool and add new excitement and engagement to daily learning experiences.

It’s All About the Senses: Art for Infants and Toddlers

This training highlights activities for sensory experiences for infants and toddlers which act as the foundation and “bridge” for creative experiences in preschool. In small groups, participants will practice with two sensory exploration activities and present their reflections and ideas to the larger group.

Community: Children as Citizens of the Preschool Classroom

This training introduces civics for preschool children and explores activities and strategies which support them as invested members of the classroom community. Strategies and activities are presented which focus on the importance of belonging to a community, nurturing pro-social skills, and the benefits these bring to the child’s self-concept development and to the classroom as a community.

Shapes and Spatial Awareness: Geometry in the Preschool Classroom

Teachers of children ages three- to five-years old will learn concrete ways to engage children in discovering shapes. In this hands-on and interactive training, participants will work in small groups to identify activities and strategies they can utilize in the classroom, brainstorm math vocabulary, and discover ways to engage families in making shapes and space a concrete and meaningful experience

What’s in a Name? One Strategy for Self-concept Development and Family Partnership

This training explores the importance of the child’s positive self-concept development. Participants will practice one strategy which promotes self-concept development and which can strengthen family partnerships.

Being Matisse: An Inspiration Station Strategy

Children are natural artists! Participants will interact with creative materials and practice with an art strategy that can be easily implemented into their classroom, enriching the preschool child’s visual and creative experiences.

Respecting Children’s Unique Qualities through Strong Family Partnerships

Early childhood educators are in a unique position to create environments which nurture each child’s personal identity as well as group identity. This 3 hour training promotes the importance of creating an environment which respects and reflects the unique qualities of each family and each child in the context of strong family partnerships.

Numbers and Measurement in the Preschool Classroom

This 3.25 hour training supports teachers of three- and four-year-old children in the practice and understanding of activities and vocabulary for math. Participants will learn how to incorporate number concepts and quantities, and measurement and comparison in every day practice. Participants learn current research on math for young children and are given opportunities to practice with hands-on activities.

Art and Young Children: Visual Thinking – Making Meaning

This training supports teachers of children ages three to five years in understanding the current thinking and best practice for visual art experiences. The training offers participants practice with strategies and help on developing their own.

Understanding a child’s growth, development, and learning is paramount in providing experiences that foster the predictable steps and sequences of development.

Supporting Child Development

This training provides an overview of how children’s brains develop and what factors can influence healthy and age-appropriate development. Participants will explore how early experiences can influence learning, behavior and development.

Program Planning and Development

Strong leadership is vital to high quality early childhood programs. Leaders who administer early childhood programs must have a solid foundation in organizational, personnel, and financial management.

Widening the Lens: Looking at Quality through a Program Administration Perspective

This 3 hour training introduces participants to the Program Administration Scale®, also known as PAS, which measures the quality of management and leadership practices in centers and preschools. The Colorado Shines Quality Rating and Improvement System includes a Leadership, Management, and Administration component. This component is heavily influenced by the PAS® tool and this training will familiarize participants with the tool, the process, and how results can be used to strengthen the daily operations of the program.

Coaching and Resistance: Let’s Change the Window

This training explores resistance and its challenge for coaches as they work with teachers and directors on quality improvement. The training asks the participant to shift her view of resistance, and consider alternative “windows” to support and promote change.

Critical Components of Coaching

This training introduces skills and strategies for coaching early childhood professionals in quality improvement goal setting and action plans. This training can be customized as 3-, 6-, or 12-hour sessions. Participants learn how adult learning principles can inform their role as an effective coach.

Child Care Health Consultant Skills & Strategy

Child Care Health Consultants play the critical role of assisting early childhood programs in meeting and exceeding basic health and safety standards. We offer ongoing support, training, and resources to medical professionals serving children in early childhood settings.

Child Care Health Consultation 101

This 4.5 hour training offers Child Care Health Consultation information and resources to those nurses and physicians serving in this role in Colorado early childhood programs. The online Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC) training is strongly recommended as a prerequisite.

Child Care Health Consultation 201

This 5 hour training helps experienced Child Care Health Consultants build their competencies through self-assessment, group discussion, and reflection. Participants will practice using a new Health, Safety, and Wellness Assessment designed for to be used with programs.
